I love cookies. I am the cutest cookie monster of them all! (That’s L. Smith starting the post for me 🙂 )

For my office’s annual holiday cookie swap (which I was asked to lead this year!), I decided to try a new recipe. With the plethora of holiday cookie recipes out there (I’m looking at you, Pinterest), I knew I’d have plenty of choice. However, I am known to be indecisive, so when this particular recipe caught my eye, I was surprised how quickly I decided it was the one to try. I think it’s because it’s a King Arthur recipe, and I looove King Arthur.

My sister came over to help me bake these. She also did a stellar job with the frosting, making little christmas trees. How adorable!

These chocolate bon-bon drop cookies were really, really easy to make (only a couple of ingredients, a 1 bowl job, and you have 2 dozen bite-sized cookies), but took some time since the recipe calls to chill them in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. Full disclosure, I usually ‘cheat’ and place things in the freezer for a bit less time than it calls for to go in the fridge. So, I placed the dough in the freezer for ~15 minutes, maybe less.

While the cookies are easy, and making a double (or triple) batch in a stand mixer makes them a good bet for a cookie exchange, to be honest, I personally didn’t love the flavor and texture of these cookies. To me, they were too dry. These cookies are a shortbread-style, but even given that info, I wasn’t a huge fan. I also thought they were too sweet. If I were to try these again, I would consider decreasing the flour, adding milk, substituting some of the sugar for honey, and/or using melted chocolate instead of cocoa powder. I think some of these options would help the dryness factor, and some of the recipe commentators mentioned these options as well.

If you make these (either true to the recipe or with modifications), let me know how they come out!
